At Residence William French your room is your private domain, your silent bliss, your soulful sanctuary. Adding to the ambience is the unforgettable view beyond almost every bedroom’s big bay windows: sandy beaches and a daily theatre of shipping boats and military vessels sailing in and out of Simon’s Town harbour.
The rooms’ pared down modernity and polished concrete walls and floors offer an unfussed simplicity. Each room has an ensuite bathroom with frameless glass panelled showers; free standing or generous-sized baths and slate grey walls. Plush towels and heated rails cater to your every comfort.
You might never want to leave your room – and you may not have to. Each one is equipped with a large screen TV, unlimited Wi-Fi, a kettle, a Nespresso coffee machine, and daily replenishments of teas and pods and biscuits.

Breathtaking sea views, direct access to the front terrace and swimming pool, comfortable seating and a writing desk from which to watch the ships sail past. The room’s natural tones complement the natural surrounds while big bay windows invite the sunshine in and a beautiful bespoke king size extra-length bed in antique eucalyptus takes centre stage.
This room puts the ‘French’ in La Residence William French. Unlike the rest of the house with its signature simplicity, it’s filled with antiques and dark boudoir furniture. It has a walk in wardrobe, an antique dressing table, a dining table and sofa, and a Victorian-inspired bathroom with putty grey walls and a free standing sleeper bath. It has its own quaint private courtyard and what it lacks in sea views it more than makes up for in tranquillity and peaceful seclusion.
This room brings together a natural unfussed African elegance with classic French touches such as a weathered oak writing desk and antique armchairs. It has an open plan bathroom and a free standing bath. The bed, queen size and extra-length, is indulgently upholstered. And the coup de grace: large bay windows leading directly onto the swimming pool and terrace.
This suite takes up the entire top floor and stands apart from the other rooms in more ways than one. It is the largest of all the rooms, offers absolute privacy, has its own spacious lounge, a large open plan bathroom, a walk-in wardrobe with a hidden safe, its own balcony and a wide-angle, spectacular sea view. The star of the room though is a bespoke steel bed sensuously draped in a full sized mosquito net.
A bluer-than-the-sky infinity pool drops down a precipice and blends into the horizon allowing you to look out over Forever from the comfort of a softly padded lounger, cocktail in hand. Whether you choose to suntan in the full African sun or seek shade under the half-covered terrace, the pool area at La Residence provides you with a private place in Paradise.
Earthy African hues and the tasteful detail of a manicured French aesthetic, modern lights, baroque mirrors, cool cream comfortable sofas, raw wood and brass tables, generous plush pulled-back curtains and a million-dollar view combine to make the living area a peaceful place to lounge around. Here you can melt into a cosy couch with a magazine, or congregate for a pre-dinner aperitif in anticipation of a heart-felt home-cooked meal.
